World Series Of Poker* Overview

World Series of Poker Las Vegas, WSOP Europe at Bodog Poker

A History of the World Series

The World Series of Poker* has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1970 at Binion's historical Horseshoe. Back then there were barely 50 casinos in the whole of Vegas. That year, Johnny Moss was voted the best in the world and walked away with a silver cup.

Skip forwards to 2006, when a record-setting $12 million Main Event championship prize was awarded to one member of Team Bodog. In total, Team Bodog walked away with over $15 million in cash prizes and two World Series bracelets.

The World Series 2007 in Vegas saw a 2,400 player drop and was won by psychologist Jerry Yang who took home a hefty $8.25 million. Team Bodog managed a healthy sum of just under $2 million in winnings and impressed all on the Strip by their legendary party antics on the Bodog Players Lounge bus.

2007 was also the year of the inaugural World Series Europe, held in London, England. Chasing a prize pool of over £7 million, Team Bodog battled it out with many of the world’s poker pros and came out on top. Team Bodog’s Matt McCullough from New Jersey took an impressive third place finish, winning £381,910 as the last American standing.

This year’s World Series Vegas schedule includes 55 events, the same as 2007. But this time the number of $10,000 championship events was increased to seven in addition to the Main Event. And the popular $50,000 HORSE event was back for the third time. Team Bodog enjoyed a great showing overall, with five players cashing:
